COMEDìA, IN UNA SELVA OSCURA

Appreciated by critics and audience for the great passion and the perfect mix between the various instruments present in its performance, the Quartetto Chagall is made up of young musicians which met, during their studies, in the city of Trieste (Italy).

Deriving from many different chamber music experiences, the "Quartetto Chagall" members founded this group in 2014, with the purpose of going deep to the heart of both the traditional string quartet repertoire and compositions rarely played, and world premieres, under the eyes of musicians like Andrea Amendola (Paul Klee 4et) and Pietro Serafin.

Unanimously praised for the rare attention to dynamics and details of the scores, the Quartetto Chagall got many prizes, including in particular the Golden Award and two special prizes at the "9th Svirél International Music Competition" (Slovenia), the First Prize at the 30th "Lilian Caraian Competition" (Italy) and the finalist certificate (3rd place) at the "Cameristi dell'Alpe Aria" International Competition (Italy, 2016).

It has performed for important festivals, concert seasons and cultural institutions in Italy and abroad, such as Victoria International Art Festival (Malta), Imago Sloveniae (Ljubljana - SLO), Bergamo Quartet Society, Parma Concert Society, Trieste Concert Society, "Amici della Musica W. de Angelis" of Campobasso, ACM Chamber Music of Trieste, Amici della Musica “O. Fiume” of Monopoli, Fondazione OMI (Torino), Association "Rodolfo Lipizer" of Gorizia, Terre d'Arezzo Music Festival and many others, collaborating with great artists such as Giampaolo Bandini, Cesare Chiacchiaretta and Igor Zobin. The group gained great approval also for some premieres, by composers such as N. Jappelli and C. Chiacchiaretta.

In October 2019 the Quartetto Chagall had a eight-concerts-tour in China, performing in the nation's best concert halls, including Beijing's National Library Arts Center, Ji'nan's Shandong Grand Theater, Harbin Concert Hall, Guotai Arts Center in Chongqing, Shanghai City Theater.

In 2020, for the 250. anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's birth, their first CD, titled "Omaggio a Beethoven" (Tribute to Beethoven) has been released.

Quartetto Chagall develops projects that combine classical music with multivision works, among which the shows "Comedìa, in una selva Oscura" stand out, produced in 2021 to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death and sponsored by MiBACT, "Seasons ”, which represents in an unprecedented way the “Seasons” of Vivaldi and Piazzolla and “Pastorale”, Beethoven's Sixth Symphony in a chamber version for string sextet (transcription by M.G.Fischer), to raise awareness of environmental and climate problems; as well as multidisciplinary shows, such as "Perpetuum Mobile", a marriage of Music and Dance. Marc Chagall and his painting "The Blue Violinist" (1913) inspired these projects and the name of the group. Since 2020, the Quartetto Chagall has been part of the Artistic Committee of the TRIESTECLASSICA APS Association, active in the organization of important musical projects by and for young people.

Their debut at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (2023) and a tour in Spain (2024) are scheduled.

In 2023 the quartet was selected to join the Le Dimore del Quartetto network.

CHAMBER SYMPHONIES

A rare event, featuring the formation of the string sextet, as exciting as it is rare. In the first part of the program you will have the opportunity to discover Mozart's “Sinfonia concertante” K. 364, transcribed in 1808 for string sextet, with an interesting interaction between the two concertante instruments and the other strings. The second part, however, features Beethoven's Sixth "Pastoral" Symphony, thanks to which the public will be able to relive Man's relationship with Nature.

PERPETUUM MOBILE

Perpetuum mobile is all here. It is perpetual motion that appears to carry human life forward, even though we know it is anything else. It is a circle that we walk from birth to death. It is a movement to achieve peace which, however, will probably lead us to move again, who knows. Perpetuum mobile is all of this, but told with dance.

SEASONS

"Seasons" was born from a collaboration with the internationally renowned accordionist Igor Zobin: the famous Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi are placed side by side with the less known "Cuatro Estaciones Portenas" by Astor Piazzolla: the unpublished arrangement created especially for this show, alternates and amalgamats the "Seasons-Estaciones" within new "single pieces" which outline temporal and stylistic leaps in a truly interesting whole, without missing out on some musical surprises...

COMEDìA, IN A dark forest

A real theatrical show dedicated to Dante's Inferno, in which a narrative voice, the projection of images and sets with digital graphics and, of course, chamber music, performed live, mix, resulting in all being the protagonists. The public will be able to completely identify itself with the characters presented and represented, showing empathy or blame for them.

TRAVEL DIARIES

The title refers to the idea of "pilgrimage", traceable in both proposed compositions. The String Quartet No. 12 op. 96 by Dvorak is called "American", since each movement is based on typically New World motifs and melodies. The Quartet no. 1 by Smetana, on the other side, refers to the "journey of Life": from the first to the last movement, all the phases of the composer's existence follow one another; for this reason it is entitled "From my Life”.

ROMANTIC EMOTIONS

Candle With Blurry And Romantic Lights

From a musical meditation on the theme of love, understood as a memory, as an idyll but also as a torment, this program was conceived, which sees Romanticism as the master, both as a historical era of the proposed compositions (perhaps with some slight time overrun but not stylistic), and as an emotional fil rouge. All the compositions, in fact, are united by a strong emotional impact, and by the almost obsessive alternation between contrasting colors and feelings, typical of man, which leads the listener from a state of fragility and impotence to a series of openings towards "the Light".
